Superfast broadband event

Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Business Gateway are holding an event at the Community Centre on Wednesday 22nd August to promote next generation broadband which is arriving in Nairn and offer advice and guidance on internet access, cyber security, general IT issues and other matters that will be relevant to both businesses and members of the public alike.

Experts attending will include Citizens online , Business Gateway , E-skills , Development Partners , ICT Knowledge Transfer Network  & more .

Advice will be available on a whole range of topics, from accessing the internet for those currently unable to do so, right through to the low down on cyber security and data management from an expert from QinetiQ.

The BT Business Broadband Bus will also be available to offer advice to businesses on the potential benefits of the next generation of broadband.
BT will contact those businesses whose service is affected by this upgrade to see if they wish to attend .

HIE have details of the event on their website here.

It is a great boost for  Nairn  to be chosen as the first in Scotland to be upgraded  to the next generation of broadband though, unfortunately, it only covers about  90% of the town.Remarkably the areas not being upgraded in this first stage include most of the High Street and the Business Park. Perhaps someone from BT attending the event will be able to explain the rather bizarre logic behind that decision.

If you want to check whether your business or home is included in the first phase of  the programme, you can  find out here.

In spite of the questions over the exclusion of some areas in the town , this event will be well worth attending and  more details will be posted when we have them .

Window dressing competition results

The window dressing competition proved a great success with many businesses taking part  to mark the Diamond  Jubilee and Curtis Cup events.

Favourable comments were received from tourists and golf fans alike about how good the High Street looked .

First place went to Big Bloomers , second to Brambles and joint third to Tradeway and The Flower Shop.

Sheena Baker , who sponsored the event, said she was delighted at the response and thanked all involved for their creative efforts.

It is an attractive leaflet with things to do and places to go to along with a little local history, an area map showing the locations of visitor attractions outwith the town and a town map showing visitors where they can eat, stay and find things to do. Please do display some in a prominent position so that visitors can easily locate them.

It will take place in the music room at the Community Centre on Monday 28th May, 7.30pm. There will also be a short AGM for the Association but do not let that deter you from coming as Michael is keen to hear views from as many interested parties as possible.
